Obesity
Dangers Of Obesity
It is now known that obesity is not only a common problem, but a serious health risk. Obesity increases the risk of several serious illnesses such as heart disease and stroke, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder and gallstones, osteoarthritis, arthritis and respiratory problems such as sleep apnea and asthma.
Statistics show that heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. Obese people tend to have high blood pressure, which often leads to heart disease and stroke. Very high cholesterol levels can also cause heart disease, and that is combined with obesity. Obesity may also be responsible for angina and sudden death, heart disease or stroke, in the absence of symptoms.
Obese people are much more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than non-obese people, because it reduces the body’s ability to control blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes can lead to premature death heart disease, stroke and blindness.
Obesity can lead to several types of cancer. While overweight women are at risk of cancer of the uterus, gallbladder, cervix, ovary, breast and colon, their male counterparts to develop colon cancer and prostate cancer.
